    RidgeRunner with or without Middle Pole

    I've taken an extended nap this afternoon in my RidgeRunner in the backyard. I decided to do half with the center 4" extension at the head and half without, after hearing some like it more without.

    Now, I didn't get a full half and half because I was sleeping so well for the first half I didn't wake up in time. But as I lay here after removing it, I'm definitely preferring it more with the extension. Even though I'm a narrow shouldered guy, I feel more shoulder squeeze and a bit less comfort without it.

    Other RidgeRunner owners, what's your preference?

    Depends on the temperature. If its going to be hot, I keep the extension in for more space between my shoulders and more air circulation. If its a cold night, I take it out because I feel it snugs the sides closer to me, making it feel warmer.

    Hammocks= unlimited choices.

    Without, Side sleeping I enjoy feeling the side of the hammock at my back and love the added depth.

    That's one of the reasons I posted this - I'd heard that side-sleeping might be better without. I really like side sleeping at times, so I tried it. For me, it actually made it worse. Maybe because when I side sleep I like to stretch my arms out a bit and with the steeper walls I actually get pinned in worse.

    Thanks for sharing - it's always interesting to hear what works for others.

    This is cause I am probably so used to sleeping in my BMBH UL and being a cold natured sleeper..have to have something touching my back. I also did a modest mod to the head end with the 4 inch spreader bar out of the head end of the RR..by just hand sewing 2 more pieces of shock chord about 8 inches apart from dead center where Brandon placed his. And added 2 chord locks to bring the loose fabric up more to the spreader bar,,works for me and works great with the 4" extension out of the head spreader bar. For me, I really love the lay of this hammock with the 4 inch extension out of it as its sooo comfortable. Last nite's sleep was the best ever!!!

    We have a single and a double layer. In the single layer, I feel more stretch and prefer to have the extension in to raise me up a bit. In the double layer, I prefer it without the extension.

    I only tested without the extension for a couple minutes, but I like the lay better WITH the extension.
