With Mother's Day next week (I don't have near enough Honey-Do points saved up to get out of that!), then Trail Days, then Memorial Day...the only time I can make it is June 2-3.

If Memorial Day works better for other folks, I might be able to make it out for a day trip with the family but probably couldn't stay overnight.

Trail days and memorial day weekends are full for us already.... late june or 4th of july may be better... picking dates is really a 45-60 day out thing if you want folk to be able to mark the calendar then defend the dates availability.

They can also go to the Pine Grove Furnace Ironmasters Hostel if they want to spend a night inside. The park also has room for trailers if I remember.

Then we suspend their tent from a tree and poke at them with sticks.

When looking for a place for the first hang for this group, what in your opinion is the best case scenario for a meeting place?

I'm in MA, but I'll drive to PA depending on the part cause I can make it in 4 hours if I leave at the right time.

It's hard to do but you could find out who wants to come, set the date 2 months in advance and find a middle ground.

Sorry for the cryptic post. I'm trying to get an idea of what to look for in a park/trail in order to accommodate everyone. Would it be good to meet in a park and toward the end of the day hike up the AT and hang hammocks...or, would it be better to find a place on the AT that would accommodate everyone near a clearing?

i've not really looked into the other state parks & wilderness areas in VA other than the mt rogers area, but i might be able to meet up somewhere in mid to northern VA at some point this summer.
btw... if you've never spent time in the mt rogers area, i would highly recommend it. ...tim

I'm for the Pine Grove Furnace idea myself. From looking at it on the web and maps it's pretty central to the Mid Atlantic group. But maybe we should come up with a small list and openly vote on it. Then we can move on to a date.
If you must choose between two evils, opt for the one you've never tried before

Where I suggested there is the Tagg Run camp ground within about 1.5 trail miles. The spot below the James Fry shelter is very large, flat and plenty of trees plus it has a central point for a fire pit that we could hang around and swap tall tales. Also if there has been some rain the stream that is fed by the shelter water source runs through it.
