can't remember which thread its from but its here some where.
Perhaps in the mad scramble for sexy light weightness I and everyone else has forgotten the most important function of gear – not that it must weight nothing, look good and be cheap, but that it must keep you alive and increases your survivability.

Look at my Avatar for an ENO from REI, also on my gallery page.

Hammocks are packable for Kayaking too (no poles, stuff in the hull).

The floor person took the customer in back, to look at a PC and Hennessy stuff online. I ...um.... inserted myself into the conversation and asked the guy what type of hiking/camping he did. It turns out that he was looking for a lounging hammock, and that an ENO DN would be about perfect for what he wanted. I got to do some educating about the differences between an all-in-one system like the Hennessy and a more modular system (hammock/tarp/insulation), and pointed both people to hammockforums.net for further info.

BUT, I did come away thinking "wow, REI could probably tap this market better!" If they did carry TQ/UQs, or at least could talk about them better, there's probably some margin in it for them. Either way, I got to talk about hammocking- and I LOVE doing that!
thanks for helping spread the word at REI, it helps my cause

I am trying to get REI to include more hammock gear but it will take a while and will only work if a lot of customers show intrest through purchasses, asking by way of email, or folks could volunteer to teach a class for hammock backpacking at your local REI which is tricky.

Also glad to see an HH-Expedition there, usually you only see ENOs at stores that come close to selling hammocks.
No I'm in Troy, MI, the other 2 stores in this state are in ann arbor, and northville.

and yes I am working on getting more hammock presence in the stores, it may not hapen fast but I will do my best, I'm still learning myself, I just got started in this cool new shelter system.
