    Hammock stand suspension

I have been looking at buying a hammock stand, and I am going to need an adjustable way to attach my hammock to the stand. Whoopie slings seem to be my best option. Two questions.

    1) for those who use stands, what do you attach your hammock to them with?

    2) how small can whoopies adjust down to?

    Thanks as always!

    Attach mine w whoopie slings...
My whoopies can adjust down to a bit more than 1-foot.
But, by looping the whoopie's adjustable loop through the stand's attach-point hardware; then back on itself - cuts that minimum length almost in half.

Keep in mind that most commercial hammock stands are made for backyard net hammocks. Not the gathered end camping hammocks we use. (Don't ask me how I know). The Byer Vario stand does work and is well worth the money. Of course you could make a turtlelady stand.

Byer Vario stand and WBBB with adjustable webbing works fine for me. Waiting on the wife's WBRR (I am over the weight limit) to arrive and try out on the Vario backyard lab.

I wish. I am not exactly what you call handy with tools and such.

Might be worth a shot, though.

My wife would say the same about me but for about $50 in materials I was able to make mine in about two hours! Granted, I have the necessary tools, but you should know someone with that stuff, right?

As long as you can drill holes and screw nuts to bolts you'll be fine.

I have one of these stands for indoors. Vivere. It's adjustable and very sturdy. I also like the U-shaped ends. My hammock (clark nx-150) seems to be just the right length that I can hook the steel ring from my whoopie sling (i have the all-in-one system from Stu) over the end of the "U".

Before I had the whoopie slings I just hung the rope over the U part, down and around the hook and doubled it back over. If I were any good with tying knots I wouldn't need the whoopies, but boy are they quick and easy!

Also it comes with a carry case and is really quick to take apart for vacations - like visiting the parents house and NOT sleeping in their fold out day bed.

I take my tree straps, fold them in half and create a lark's head, which I put over the hammock's ends (whoopie slings and all). Then I wrap the two ends of the straps over and over and over whatever's on the stand (ring, carabiner, post, whatever). After many criss-crossing wraps of the two ends of the straps, it only takes a half hitch and a slippery half hitch to hold it in place. This works well for me.

I just attached my tablecloth hammock to my backyard hammock stand. (spend the extra on the vario, the sumo stand isn't tall enough for a lot of gathered end hammocks) I used the original suspension from my Hennesy hammock. I jut clove hitched it to the ends. Clove hitch is easy to adjust and won't bind up. I use the bottom method when possible.
