Keep me posted on the Torreya situation. Are any of those primitive sites on or near the bluffs? I've never been there but have been considering a trip there soon.

    Approved

I heard back from Mr Madden. He spoke to the the Park Manager, and it was approved for us to hammock at the park. He only asked that we fill out the test survey when we return, which, of course, we will.

    Very happy indeed!

I have been to Torreya, and I can tell you it is a surprisingly nice place. The Rock Bluff primitive campsite is on the bluff about 75' above the river. The Rock Creek campsite is not too far from the river, but is alongside a nice creek (water source). The Torreya Challenge camp is 1/4 mile away from the nearest stream. The Challenge loop is more up and down than one would normally expect from Florida. But all the scenery is beautiful. I do recommend the place.

    More great news!

I'm planning on another trip to Torreya in the Fall. Had a good time last year and it'll be better in a hammock!

I know it's still pretty warm out but has anybody tried to hang, or is planing to, over at Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Martin county? I've been steering clear of doing any hikes there because of the ban on hammocks.

Just check with Jonathan Dickinson in West Palm

Hey guys, I just called the ranger at JD in West Palm Beach and he said that not only have they got the word but that they have cemented in posts at their standard campsites for general use and hammock hanging.
I just jumped back on here after being away for quite some time and could not be happier that I did.

Thank you Samsara for all your work.

Although it would have been nice to have this come a few months earlier before I retooled my gear with a ground dweller setup. But more gear is more better!

We've never experienced a problem, just so long as you use tree slaps and LNT. We did have an issue at Mochican Park and Pack do to all of the cars in the parking area at our June hang, but that has been it

I've seen the plans for the posts they're putting in at the state parks...

6"x6" posts, buried 6' in the ground.

Seemed a bit excessive to me, and I wondered why they didn't jus build some portable stands, that could be moved from site to site as needed. In case there was a group of hammock campers, and they were staying on the same site.
