I picked up all the hardware to build this today, with the exception of the top rail. I have a Hennessy Explorer Deluxe. Is the standard 10' length for this hammock (it says to hang between trees 13-20 feet apart), or should I pick up a second piece and make it longer?

I think that it depends on your suspension. Also, if you plan on using a tarp with it you probably want to get 2 top rails. I got 2 rails so that I can fit it inside my vehicle instead of on the roof.

It's the standard Hennessy suspension. I think I'll just get two lengths, that way I can cut them at different lengths and be able to adjust it as needed.

I don't have a Hennessy and I don't know how the suspension is set up. Two lengths is much more flexible though if you have room.

For my outdoor stand I cut one 5' and 5' and the other 6' and 4' so I can make 9', 10' and 14' and heck, 16' if I wanted to. Indoors or for travel I just use the 5' and 5'.

That's exactly what I was thinking of doing hppyfngy. I just finished the tripods about 10 seconds before your reply, so now all I need is the rails.

Great stand. Question how did you round the tipod kegs off from the square? Is there some sort of plane for doing this?
I'd like to do that to mine before painting/preserving it.

I bought them that way...they were the only 2x2s my local hardware store had.

Pretty much any 2x2" you buy here in the states will have the corners "eased" like that.

You could use a router with a round over bit, or take a belt sander to it or something like that.

Like the eyebolt drop for the top rail pipe too!

Thanks in advance for any tips and Happy New Year!

I used hppyfngy's instructions in his signature...I believe he also posted right after your above post. I like the eyebolt attachment as well...I saw it somewhere on this thread and decided to use it. I used two sections of top rail each cut to 7' long for a total length of 14'...I did this to ensure I could hang my tarp (Kelty Noah 12) if I wanted to. I'm not sure yet how I'm going to hang it since I don't really want it over the top rail...thinking about just wrapping the ridgeline around the eyebolt and back to the Dutch Flyz...

If you have room for a second nut on the end of your eyebolt, you could tie off your tarp in between them below the pole. Maybe grind off the threads there to prevent damaging the tarp lines. Or tape them up.

    Just a thought...
