Zippers or Velcro? and where to buy.

Working on my third hammock and I'm thinking about trying velcro on the side in between the mosquito netting and side of the hammock. Mainly because I don't have another 5-6 foot long zipper. I know the Hennessey has the velcro in the body of the hammock, but I don't want to make a hole there.

Where can you buy 5-6 foot long zipper?

Old sleeping bags are the usual way to find them. Try your local Goodwill or Salvation Army Thrift Store.

Yea, I thought about that, just thought it would be a bad price for just what you need. Maybe could use the sleeping bag material for something though. . .

Maybe two of the longest zippers I can find might work. hmm.

Try Thru-Hiker they will have what you need in Zippers.

OWF also has a collection of presized zippers here
I have been eyeing that 100" zipper to use to attach a bugnet

    Wink zippers

Had a zipper mod done to my Hennessy Exped this winter and anticipate enjoying the mod as soon as weather improves and there is an event suitable for hanging - might happen mid April.

OWFINC, Seattle Fabrics, Thru Hiker, take your pick....

I'm waiting on a zipper, silnylon and a WPB fabric to mash together a hybrid weathershield/bivy. Thirty bucks.

don't be afraid to try the cut-to-length coil zipper (available at owfinc and quest). The main pain is getting the zipper on, but with a little practice it comes, and then you can cook up whatever length zipper you need (except for separating ones).

Ed Speers sells the velcro at a cheap price and his turn-around is fast.

I much prefer one-sided hook-and-loop fasteners to ordinary velcro. The hook side of velcro in particular attracts bugnetting and snags on it.

I've used FreeMagic in the past, and quite like it. Down side is that you need to order in increments of 25 yard rolls.

I'm told that smaller lengths of so-called "no-snag velcro" might be found at Walmart or a chain fabric store.
