I found these at ****'s at the Fairfield Commons Mall in Beavercreek OH for $3.98 after tax. They had a whole rack. They are about 7in high and zip up.

Those will definitely keep the scree out of your low cut shoes.
Argh! I would love a deal like that.
Look up before you hook up!!

you'd probably still want a waterproof shoe/boot for ohio winters, but these on top will keep your pant ends dry moving through snow up to depth similar with the height of the gaiter.
I plan on investing in a pair of gaiters so I can continue to use my summer gortex hiking boot in deeper snow.
And on the subject, I saw at Marshalls they had snow shoes, neck gaiters, calf gaiters (10.00) and the whole lot of winter hiking type stuff. I found a great Marmot deal someone posted on here and they were carrying them here thought he post was from another state, so it's worth checking out if you have a Marshalls close to you.

hmm didn't see it's elastic at the bottom.. probably not good for snow Diva, there's no "skirt" to deflect the snow, only elastic to prevent debris coming up and your pants dusting the ground.
Ok, thanks Slo and HamMike. No Marshalls here, but we do have a new Dicks. (that just sounded entirely wrong! ) It was worth asking though. I'll keep looking around.
