DIYed Down Quilts

Before I start my designing phase for my Under Quilt and Top Quilt, I have a question about Laws.
The Law of Gravity to be specific.

Which would be better, Perpendicular baffles, or Parallel baffles?

If I build the baffles perpendicular to the hammock wouldn't the down be pulled to the lowest point?

My preference for bottom quilts is to run the baffles parallel to the hammock. For top quilts, I run the baffles perpendicular to the hammock. This seems to be the majority opinion although there are desenters.

I agree that running the baffle chambers parallel to the length of the hammock makes the most sense, in theory. The steeper angles of the perpendicular baffles would cause the weight of the down to compress itself somewhat.

That would also give you the option of shaking it down to that point if you needed a little extra warmth on your backside one night. Just an idea to consider.

I am looking at this too and read something about using noseeum netting inside the baffles for added stability and less cold spots. I have not looked into it but it certainly got me thinking.
