My trip last weekend it only got down to 33, but I also got cold. Similar situation, mis-adjustment of gear. For me it was my underquilt. I had changed everything when I switched to the Whoopie slings, but did not check the hang of my No-Sniveler when I got in that night. About midnight, I woke up shivering & found the UQ was about 5 inches from me. BRRR! I got up, watered a nearby tree, adjusted the quilt & went back to sleep. It did take about an hour to warm back up, so I added my sit pad under me, "just because".
This was My mistake, not a gear failure. Lesson learned, I hope.

I did have a vision of the beauty of the clear night though. Those are the best and sometimes I hate wasting them on sleep. I just want to soak them up. A few of us are going to hang in my woods next weekend. Won't be that cold, though I do wish for some clear skies. Hope to see you at the Hoosier Hang. Great report.
Ya'll have a big and good ol' time .... how could you not?
Thanks for the med explanation ... I feel better now. I'll be back .... gotta go pee.
I hope to make it too!!!!!!

I hear ya' .... but things did not always go perfectly in the winter in my tent days either.

So Shug, you prefere the MSR Whisperlite over the mini atomic? Only in the snow? Reasons??

I've been working on my taxes, so thanks for that report. I needed an outdoor break, even if it was vicariously.
(Man!! Using big words like "vicariously", I know it's getting late. I'd best be hittin' the sack!)

Oddly, my feet have been cold all day, even layin in the BB in the backyard with my thermarest. But as soon as I read "1*" they warmed up and are now toasty warm. Crazy how a little perspective can make all the difference.

It is weird how the same gear that you put up time & time again, the same way every time, can fail you on just a normal outing.

Last weekend I went to a local campground and Friday night my UQ didn't perform up to par either. I still don't know why. I've used it in 15*f weather with no problem. Friday night it was only like 26*f.

Oh well, I'm holding to the hope that Spring is but a little ways away, and all of us will be hangin' in warmth and tranquility!

Lookin' forward to seeing another Shug Classic!!

nice report Shug- i was standing outside the other moonlit night and had wished i was out ,it is a beautiful thing in the bush at night in the winter with the moon almost reflecting off the snow and especially nice to be alone with your thoughts.oh yeah, and the trees popping is always cool too.

Shug, you're a wordsmith! Nice of you to do all those great videos, but don't forsake the "printed page" (There's a phrase on the way to obsolescence.)

I love the sound of trees cracking on a cold night, too. Like a line drive.
