ridge lines love them or hate them

I'm a big fan of ridgelines. They do 3 things for me.
1. Help me set the proper sag.
2. Support my bugnet (required in Florida year round).
3. A place to hang my glasses, headlamp & water bottle and sometimes, bear spray.

As to length, my hammock is 11' long which I consider perfect for my 6'-1" height and my ridgeline is 9'-5" (111") long. I use a MacCat Ultra Spinn tarp with a 12' ridgeline.

Some day I'll spring for a cuben tarp but it will have at least a 11.5' -12' ridgeline. But what I find fascinating about hammocks is that there are no two alike once we all start tinkering with them.

If the ridgeline is bothersome, consider installing a disconnect so you lay it out of the way when it's in the way.

I'm sure you'll get some good tips on the 11 footer from the group and have it worked out soon.

But Neo, you have been taking a lot of wild chances lately! Crazy stuff like UQs and whoopie slings! I'm thinking it took you some time after you got them to decide they were not so bad after all. ( heck what is really crazy is you have posted some pics of a Hennessy you have been using! )

I hang with and without RLs. I have never bothered with one on my Claytor No Net and don't recall missing it. Probably because it does not seem to matter much if I have a lot of sag in it or very little, and with no net there is not much need to hang anything from the RL. No RL on my Speer.

My RLs on the HHs have always worked fine( just pull them moderately tight and the sag feels about right) and seemed handy. Particularly with the netted bottom entry, when I would just have most anything I was likely to need inside the hammock with me, hanging from the RL either above me or with stuff sacks tied into the RL loops at the hammock ends.

I usually have RLs added to my JRB bridge hammocks, for the exact length recommended by JRB, then just adjust until RL is straight. Just seems like a quicker adjustment.

you need to try it out 1st before you do that. Until you lay in it you have no idea how it will feel.

I will be taking mine to St Louis this weekend in hopes of trying it out

I know that, at least for me, I have a #4... I put a prusik loop on my ridgeline that I use for keeping my glasses, headlamp, and ipod (all hanging off of my ridgeline) shoved up at the head end of my hammock out of the way as I sleep. Then, when I get up I slide the loop towards the foot end and use it to pull myself up and out of the hammock.

I love ridgelines!

It's your hammock do what you want. I love my 11' hammock I love my 9.5' hammock as well
