Cold and Hot: Any one trying to set records?

Kind of cold out west this morning.
Found a minus 34 at Blacks Fork Jct UT ( I actually back packed that area years ago): http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/get...e=1&banner=off

And a minus 31 at 0100 at Pinedale, WY:
    http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/get...e=1&banner=off

Then again, day before yesterday, we set an all time record high for the date here, broke it by 5*F at 75 or so, and now it feels bitter cold at freezing. I think the high today is in the 30s, down 40F from 2 days ago.

Oops, I missed this one, minus 48.8 at Peter Sinks UT on Jan 13:

Any one managing to hang in any extremes out there? Watch your toes and fingers out west!

You won't find me out in either extreme. I don't mind getting down to around 20* but much lower than that and I'd just rather stay home.

I have my gear dialed in for the 68* my house stays at though. If I ever go on a trip with a forecasted 68* low I'll know exactly what to pack.

No desire for the extremes. This past summer my husband and I hung when it was over 104* and it was absolutely miserable, and I don't ever want to do that again, unless I am thru hiking the AT and there is no other choice.
0* is the lowest I want to go for cold weather. Brrrrr......

On a super hot day I'd much rather be hanging than in a tent... But even that would be uncomfortable I'm sure. I wonder if you could suspend a hammock in a swimming hole, so you could sleep partially submerged?

Winter Camper here....I've done -34 in a tent up near the Canadian border. Summer, not so much. I'd rather play in the snow than sweat my region off.

Think those days are behind me now, though. Not because of me, but because we haven't had anything near zero in New England for a few winters in a row now. Hell, the lakes don't even freeze no more.
I prefer to remain an enigma.

My record last year in Feb was -19F backyard no wind...

and then I did +5F with a 15mph sustained wind and it was much colder and harder.

Good luck to all trying for a new personnel best...

Blaktee and his compadre just set themselves some personal records I think! Minus 22, I think it was 1st night in a hammock for one of them. Which is really wild! But maybe a good thing they didn't go down to Peter Sink UT for that minus 49 or that minus 34 and minus 31 that I found. That might have proved a bit much!

I don't try to set records for myself, I just go out into the woods. I do keep a journal with my gear used and the weather so I can fine tune my setup. I have done minus 22*F with considerable wind and been toasty warm. Slept in the 90's. I think hot weather is worse than cold.

it was a personal record for both of us. Kyle killed it for his first hang. I think it was cold enough for me.
