I was looking through some of my gear, and I realized that I have a sleeping bag compression sack that I no longer use for the sleeping bag, and I was wondering about using it for my HH explorer deluxe. I was wondering if there were any foreseeable issues with using a compression sack with the hammock? I was thinking that maybe I could make it into a compression black bishop bag. Please let me know if this sounds like a good idea, or if I would ruin my hammock.
I am probably going to try this out anyway, but if anybody has any experience using a compression sack for their hammock, I would like to know how it worked out.
Being a hammock, it really doesn't have much to "compress". Not like an insulated object such as a sleeping bag or down quilt for example.
I don't see how it can hurt it, assuming the compression doesn't push hardware up against fabric and cause stress/tears. But I don't think you'll get much compression out of it that you couldn't do with a properly sized stuff sack.
That definitely seems like a valid point. I can see how sometimes it might just be helpful for me to sit back and think about things a little more thoroughly.

So what little you might compress out of (not very compressible) items can be helpful.
you might get a little extra space, but it would certainly not be much, another option is a smaller bag which would do about the same and save a few grams as well (not a gram weenie, just putting it out there)
what exactly are you trying to do exactly, save space?
A compression bag isn't going to hurt the hammock. As others have said you'll likely get minimal compression. Isn't it a bit big for the hammock? A option is to leave the sleeping bag in the hammock and compress the sleeping bag with the hammock. Saves taking an extra compression bag and speeds up setup/take down.
I've been thinking about a compression sack for my HH for a while now.
It always seems like I have to stuff and stuff and stuff forever to cram everything into the bag that came with the hammock but if I sit on it afterward I can clearly make it even smaller. I'd love a bigger bag for ease of stuffing with compression straps to make the whole works smaller in the backpack.
I just took 2" wide strap I've got with a slider and tightened it down on my ultralite explorer with snake skins in the bag going the long way top to bottom.
I've got a noticably smaller package, although it looks kind of like a stuffed letter H now since it didn't distribute the compression.
My sleeping bag goes into a Granite Gear dry bag with eVent on the bottom and 4 pull strings around the sides. Its sized for a cheapo sleeping bag so its too big to bother trying with my hammock but I bet a size smaller would work perfect.
I imagine there will be some marginal weight gain adding the straps, maybe an ounce or so but I'm betting on getting the thing down to half its current size in the backpack.
You 'might' be able to do this just by cramming it into a smaller drawstring bag but I think I'll pass on trying that as it may just result in me pulling my hair out.
I would just cram it in the pack soft .... it should just meld in.

agree, in the winter i put my down booties (soles down) them hammock just dropped in. then COMPRESSED quilts on top of that.
