At each end of the hammock there are specific loops that need to be made in which the hammock suspension runs through. If you get a chance to look at a Blackbird you will see what I am talking about. They are an important part of the hammock in that they are support points for the footbox and shelf area. If you string up a Blackbird and put weight in the footbox and in the shelf you can see the stress points...

Unfortunately no one around here seems to do much hammock camping so I've never seen a Blackbird in person. I'm trying to find pictures of these grosgrain loops but so far I've been unsuccessful. Are the grosgrain loops formed from extra grosgrain coming from the grosgrain that is used to finish the edge formed from joining the bugnet and hammock body? So far this is the best picture I've found: http://www.hammockforums.net/gallery...5_original.jpg and I'm still having trouble visualizing how this comes together.

Yep, that is awesome! I really like the zippered bug net. Just finished making a 2nd hammock last night (marpat camo) and now I'm thinking I should try to make one with a zippered bug net instead of a detached one.

Adding a zipper is easier than you think. And diygear supply has #3 zippers cheap...

Heh, I don't carry dumbells, but I have met a few hiking

Thanks for the kind words! I have been thinking of making myself another one just to have, though I don't know if I would actually use it now that I have my Ridgerunner. I feel I should have one in my "arsenal" though

Very nice, well done. My sewing skills would have turned out the NEW FrankinBird.
