    Poncho Liners are Awesome!

Man, I just received two GI approved poncho liners, and I must say, these things are great. And for $20 each! I've already fashioned them into top quilts and am thoroughly pleased. I will definetely be using these late spring thru early fall.
And they don't weigh much at all. I've read threads about them being heavy, but mine are totally reasonable. Thank you US Government.

If you are a gram weenie then they are heavy.

I have been using them for years and I use them as a TQ in the summer and a auxiliary blanket in the cooler / cold temps.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

I'm not a gram weenie and i purchaced two of these yesterday, thoroghly impressed with mine. I made one into a no sew pluq and absolutely love it (tried it out inside last night). I am trying it out in conjunction with my second pl slid in between the two layers this weekend at Big Bear(30 degree low). Bringing the pad and space blanket as a backup. Update will come after this weekend....

Well I finally got a chance to try out the pluq, and I must say I was comfortable in the lower thirties with mine. I was bundled up so I cheated, but I did slide a second poncho liner inside my pluq and it worked ok. The only issue I had was that the shock cord I had worked well with one in home as a test run for the weekend hang, but as soon as I slid the extra liner in it I got a helluva sag with the uq goin. I still manager to stay nice and toasty inside my sleep system but the liner was hanging about six inches under my buttocks. Luckily no CBS, but if I had gone much colder I would have been miserable.

My entire sleep system was a little different. I was car camping so I didn't have to carry my stuff anywhere. I took 2 fleece blankets with me. One went in my sleeping bag (30 rated) footbox, and the other was draped over my srl as an insulating cacoon. I had my tarp pitched low, and of course as I said I was bundled up. I had a polartec lined gortex jacket, a polartec under that, underarmor longjohns, and two pairs of socks.

I did not take the camera withthis trip and the iPhone died on me, but it was a great hang for me. Definitely sold on any kind of underquilt, they are the way to go!

I love the Poncho Liners. I fold one and lay it in my Clark NA, then cover up with another one. I was warm two weeks ago down to 40. I am thinking of cutting a couple up and sewing them to the size of my Clark pockets on the bottom and add some velcro and see how they do for insulation.

Also, I scored a poncho liner at a yard sale this weekend for a buck. Oh yeah, I love those yard sales...

Hey Baja, let me know how the PL's work in your Clark pockets. I've loved PL's since Uncle Sam issued me my first one in the early 90's. My two boy's sleep with theirs every night. I'd sleep with mine if the wife would let me!

I don't know when I will get around to doing it. I may be headed to Afghanistan in a few weeks. I had big DIY plans, but they are all on hold now. Oh well, big plans when I return. Also maybe I can thru hike the AT when I return.
