Be sure you go to strapworks http://www.strapworks.com/ and under straps and tie downs go to their simple sling and order yourself two straps from 15 to 20 feet long for those redwoods. I'm in Santa Rosa and I camp in the Redwoods and use them all the time.

2 of them in 1 1/2 inch seatbelt are $22 and change.

After reading all the most excellent advice and comments to your question there is not much more I can add except for the following. No matter what you pick for your "first and most perfect" hammock system, if you are like the rest of us you will be hooked on gear. As your hammocking experience evolves you will try/buy/do it yourself many different styles and combinations of gear.

I personally have approximatly 8 different set ups ( all DIY ) that I use for different times of the year and expected weather conditions. I live in the Pacific northwest and know what you mean by WET coast. They vary from down to synthetic and all have a place depending on specific situations.

Guess my final word to you is: Welcome to your new addiction.

Used to be. Sadly, they are only in down these days. There are a handful of us that have one, but we are few and far between. Great synthetic solution!

As for insulating lower legs and feet, I've gone to just using my pack under my legs; keeps em warm and provides a very nice knee break. Zero weight trade-off, just pure weight savings.

I just slept in one last night.The best thing about it is you add or subtract layers of Climashield according to the season. But as TAK said, they are no longer available. It would make a good DIY project though.

The KAQs are syn. My favorite is the New River, but then I can only compare it to the prototype from a sleeping bag Mfg original I have that is a bit thin.

OR, if you can sew, a Ray Way quilt can be made into a UQ with ease.

I want mine to be easy to "shift" when I desire, so I never put mine in the pad pocket anymore. Last night, if I went to my side, there would always be a cold spot on a knee or some where. But I would just shift the pad as needed to cover the offending spot, and back to sleep.

But it reminded me there is a major convenience factor to a full length like a JRB MWUQ or Speer PeaPod, you are always covered no matter how you turn. The down side? Weight. I guess bulk about evens out, once you count the leg pad back in.

This begs the question: Are there any 2/3 length synthetic underquilts for sale anywhere?

While UQ are great, pads aren't that bad - IF you use them with a double bottom hammock, like the double layered Warbonnets or Mosquito Hammocks.

Well not today but maybe tomorrow there will be.

I have gotten a couple of requests to do a KAQ fractional design. One yesterday actually, I have 2 quilts on order that need to be built today and tomorrow to fill outstanding orders. But once they are out I think I could design something that could be ready by the end of the week.
