Canvas tents...ahh, the memories!

I did a lot of buckskinning reenactment stuff as a teenager, and spent a lot of time in canvas tents/lean-to's/teepees.

And the US Army was still using canvas tents when I got out in '99...for a good reason. Yep, they're heavy. But they are durable, and when maintained well very, very water and wind proof.

Love the idea of bringing a hammock into one...very cool!

That is awesome man! Have you tested it out in winter yet? If so, what did you think?

I was out in my Canvas Wedge Hot Tent with my bridge hammock this past weekend. The low temp was -6C (21F) so not exactly winter temps, but it works great. I don't sleep with my woodstove burning, but when it running it makes the tent nice and toasty.

The Ontario Hammock group is planning a trip up north next month to Algonquin Provincial Park where the temperatures and the amount of snow are much more what one would associate with winter. I will definitely post a trip report for that one.

How come you don't sleep with the stove burning? Is that a big no no?

^^^Brian will have to answer that question, but as a practical matter, the little stoves we are using won't hold a fire for very long. Four Dog knows far more about stoves than I ever will. I hope he sees this, and joins the conversation.

The only times I seem to have multi-day rain events is when I'm deer hunting.

I camped out with him last month and he told all of us that "teepee" fires are terrible. We all looked at him like, "What the heck are you talking about."

Then he said some fire voodoo talk, threw a log on the fire and WOOSH! The whole fire just lit up. We all quickly just shut up and listened to everything he had to say.

That actually happened.
