If you mean a rope that runs under the tarp, you don't need one. It will only abrade the fabric anyway. Use the rings and add 6-10 foot cords at either corner and tie it taut to the trees. HH hammocks are supposed to be hung from the hooks on the hammock suspension, but generally that results in the tension disappearing when you get in the hammock and change the angle of the ropes.

Lori....I don't have a set of hooks on the safari suspension system to attach the tarp like is on the smaller hammock. The only way I can figure it out without adding another ridgeline is just letting it rest on the top of the hammock ridgeline and tie it off on the tree. I read somewhere that the safari isn't meant to have the tarp on the hammock ridgeline due to its size but for some reason I can't seem to locate it.

Hmmm... my safari had the tarp hooks on the main suspension ropes. I wonder if they were not included from the factory (things happen) or if they some how were taken off, or did you change suspension styles?

I don't string a separate ridgeline for my tarp. I hand it from the ridge tie outs and let the tarp act as its own ridgeline.

When we refer to a ridgeline here most of the time it is not an actual line, but the fold of a taut tarp, which sometimes coincides with the seam but not always. If the tarp has rings or grosgrain loops at the center of the shorter sides (assuming a rectangular or cat cut tarp) you can tie lines to those and hang the tarp without the rope running the length of the ridgeline. The tarp shouldn't rest on the hammock ridgeline unless you want it there to keep the interior of the hammock warm. You should be able to tie off to the trees with the guy lines below the tree straps and get a nice distance between the top of the bugnet and the tarp.

I don't have any hooks on the main suspension and my hammock setup is completely factory at this point. I can probably rig up a prusic(sp) knot on the main line to attach it to. I have been spending the last couple of evenings trying to figure out how to outfit the rest of my rig. I'm thinking I'm going to try a kickazz underquilt for it and I want to rig up some figure 9'z or something else to make it a quicker/easier setup than it is now. I'm going to do some reading for hte next few nights and try to figure that out.

Ok that makes more sense to me now. The way I have been reading it I figured I needed an actual physical ridgeline. My tarp has the loops to tie it off. I'll do some reading on different knots to try to see what method of attachment will work best. Thanks alot!

I make mine very simple - most of my guy lines have a loop in one end. Pass the loop of cord through the d ring/loop on the tarp, pass the other end of the cord through the cord loop, draw tight. Easy to remove.

On the Mac Cat I put in four of fin's tarp tensioners the same way.
