Funny I just posted last night my first underquilt attempt and made almost the exact same one as you. Nice job.

Very nice looking bit of insulation you made yourself there.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

Dblcorona- I need a 3 season TQ bad... All I need is the finances to back up the craving

Ears - Rating should be around 30-40ish, I assume. Six oz of 800 fp. I used HG summer Phoenix specs for everything but bumped the down up 2 oz just for good measure (for an extra $13 why not). HG rates their summer Phoenix, which has 4 oz of 900 fp down, to 35*. I'll report back this fall once the mercury starts to drop.

Ok, I read in several places that you need a light and a dark side because of "radiant heat". So the dark side to your body and the light side away from the hammock to keep the heat in. Is there any truth to this ?

Because I was planning on making a DIY UQ but could only find dark blue or bright pink shell material here. I'm obviously a bit reluctant on having a bright pink outer shell because of the radiant heat issue.

I feel the difference, if any, would be negligible.

The coldest part of the night, there is no sun to do any thermal warming.

If anything, the lighter side would go towards your body so it would reflect any heat back at your body, but I don't believe even that would do anything as colors don't necessarily affect heat as much as they absorb the suns heat.

Meaning that, if you put 2 different colored pieces of material over your heater vent, both will heat up the same.

Different type of heating going on that color will not affect anything when you're talking uqs.

I did different colors to tell outside vs inside as I did a slight differential cut.

Thanks Tendertoe. I went with a full blue one. I can tell the difference from outside vs inside because it's not what you would call your standard UQ. It's a bit of thrown together kind of thing using what I could find. (old down comforter + oversized pillow case made out of waterproof fabric to stuff it in = my UQ - working on it, not finished yet ).
