    Whoopie sling length

I have 50 feet of amsteel 1/8" coming in from DIYSUPPLY, How long a piece should I use for the sling? I plan to use some of the different techniques Shug has shown to attach it to the webbing on the tree. Thanks for the help. One other thing should I make a self adjusting loop at each end? I'm attaching this sling to a Grand trunk skeeter beeter pro.

The length depends on how large a whoopie sling you want. On average, I think it is about 14' of amsteel per 6' whoopie sling.

I tend to use amounts that give me the best uses of my length. For you I would simply start with a length of 12.5' which gives you a finished length of around 5'9" whoopies. With that length you now have enough for 2 sets of whoopies (no need to use 1/8 amsteel as a ridgeline - it would be incredible overkill).

This thread has a spreadsheet that will help you determine things such as length and other items.

    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=29803

You can type in minumum and maximum length plus loop size for the brummel and it gives you the rope length and other other measurements needed to create the whoopie sling.

It also has an adjustable ridge line calculator for the same purpose. Most folks use Zing-it or the the like for ridge lines.

I think my Whoopie Slings were made from 162 inches of 1/8" Amsteel. If you use the sheet make sure you change the "ROPE DIAMETER" as it is defaulted to 7/64".

    Hope this helps

Not sure what you mean by self-adjusting loop, but no need to have any adjustment on the hammock end of the whoopie. Just make yourself a fixed loop. It doesn't have to be big either. I use two fingers as a measure for the loop, as it just needs to be big enough to fit the rest of the whoopie through.

Also, as far as length, it really depends on your hanging terrain. Seems like the standard length for whoopies is 6'; I've got 5' ones on my WBBB, and they work just fine. Usually, I worry more about the whoopie slings being too long, rather than too short. I usually try to get my bury close to the gathered end, and I make the bury about 7-8" long (I'm 180lbs and never experienced any slippage).

I would love a self adjusting loop for hanging my hammock. Especially when I get to our camping spot late. Imagine that. Put tree slings up and hook on the whoopies and the hammock and bamm the hammock adjusts perfectly.
