Looks awesome. I'd like some of that color...I have quite a bit of 1.1oz DWR and 1.9 oz untreated in that color, but the only sil I've seen is a small sample-sized square. If I had some, first I'd get a tarp like you did. Then either a blackbishop sack or a summer hoodless poncho (definitely not a hunting-season hoodless poncho... ).

Been planning a hoodless poncho from the gray sil I have, though.

Looking forward to seeing that tarp at Mt Rogers. If you wake up and it's gone, blame Grizz and Finn. Can't trust those guys with double-identical-consonants at the ends of their names.

Hmmm... zz, nn, and now ff! I'll bring it to Mt. Rogers.

I'd like to see your plans for the hoodless poncho sometime. What benefits, uses, etc. besides waterproofness?

No real plans at this point...just a rectangle with a head hole, then put a ~4" turtleneck that I can snug up to keep windblow rain out. A couple of grosgrain/shockcord loops to snug the waist up in the wind and that's it.

Benefits - much lighter than the Packa, awesome ventilation (I can wear it with my OR Nimbus rain hat), double as a small tarp or groundcloth. But the biggest thing is the weight/bulk for trips where I barely need rain protection.

If you have more questions on it I'll start a new thread in the non-hammock section.

Yes, lets start a new thread on that one, if you don't mind.

I just dug out and washed a Tyvek jacket someone gave me years ago, but I'm looking for other options too. I've seen the rain skirts some have made, for example.

That's a pretty sweet looking tarp. Congrats Patrick.

Thanks. I was just looking at Doctari's custom OES tarp, and it's very similar to mine except for the size and color. Same 5 tie-outs per side, etc.

Mine (12'x10') weighs 1lb, 12.1 oz in the stuff sack, weight includes two figure 9's and 12 550 paracord (with the middle pulled out) tie-outs.

I set it up in the semi dark this afternoon, and was able to stake it into what could pass for a good winter setup. Pictures when I get time to set up in daylight.

    hey NCPatrick,
I've got the same OES 12'x10' tarp. I had Brian add a couple extra guyouts and I had another sew velcro on the ends so I could make it into an enclosed tent. So many options just using a rectangular 12'x10' silnylon tarp and sooo much room under this puppy!

    Just thought I'd share. Cheers!
