    Will I be warm enough?

    Hi All
I asked this in another thread but I think it's just buried there so I ask in a new thread.
I am heading away this weekend for 4 nights out along the bibbulmun track here South of Perth and have just found out it will be between 32 and 41 F.

I am thinking now about placing a full length but cut with a taper at each end CCF pad under the hammock between the underquilt.
Has anyone done this? do you think it will work?

    Thanks

What kind of UQ? You figure it won't be warm enough by itself at 32*F? I would say that if you can add the pad underneath and still hang the UQ so that, once you are in the hammock there will be no gap between you and the pad AND more importantly between the UQ and you and the pad, AND so that the UQ (down?) loft is not compressed, it should work fine. I know this technique works well with my PeaPod, but I don't know how it might work with other types of UQs.

Of course, if you were able to be comfortable on the pad INSIDE the hammock, while still having the quilt underneath, then most likely you will be plenty warm. And withou any worries about causing gaps/loft compression.

    Hi
The under quilt is a diy job that I made out of a synthetic quilt that I cut to size and made a cover for.
I have used a pad inside the hammock before I made the under quilt but suffered with it moving about, so thats what made me think about placing it below this time.
    Thanks

I have to agree with BillyBob. If you are gonna use a pad, I would use it inside the hammock. Pads don't conform well to the underside of a hammock and it would also probably push the quilt away from the hammock body causing gaps and cold spots.

This is why my DIY (maybe this weekend) will be a double layer hammock, so that the pad can go between the layers of the hammock to be held in place.

    Hey gunn,
Inside with a uq is a 100% safe bet that you will be warm. That is what I do in Minnesota winters (think artic type cold) and have always slept warmly.
    Have a terrific walkabout!

    Hi
I do like that idea and made a small version for my daughter but for myself I reckon it would end up being twice the weight that I would have to carry.

    Hi Shug and anybody else
Go to this PAGE and you will find a new file. I have added a Google earth KML file of the huts we will be visiting this coming week. My buddy is staying in the huts and I'll be in my Hammock of cause.
