Just a heads up for those hanging in WI. I e-mailed the WI DNR a couple weeks ago and inquired about this very thing and was told that it IS permissible in WI State Parks. I just hope that they realize that hanging has now become so popular that they need to take the initiative to put it in writing in their website, brochures, etc.

Michigan DNR mentioned hammocks as part of their Park & Read program. Some parks even have hammocks available to borrow (though I've yet to find one)!

I have not run into any restrictions related to hanging in NC State parks other than a lack of suitable trees at some locations (rare).

KAO don't allow hanging but then again I call a KAO an outdoor hotel because there are restrooms, showers and even communal stoves. Such a place does not deserve the to be called camping.

Me likey what you say and I'm glad to hear that - here's my experience: a couple of months ago I called Vogel and Unicoi SPs and the rangers at both said no dice. Also called Laura Walker SP (other end of the state in the flatlands) and they said sure, why not.
I then spoke to one of the DNR honchos in Atlanta who made friendly noises, but said it's the managers on the ground who have final say-so.

"Doodad, here in Florida, we can hammock at all state parks. Come down to Ocala next weekend for the 3rd Annual Florida Hang. It's not a state park, but not far from you, either."
Wish I could make it but pregnant daughter #2 is due Friday, so I need to be ready to travel. Next year...

Never heard of any problem in Texas, they like to see tree straps, just don't damage the trees is their concern

NC State parks allow hanging at all camp sites unless specifically stated otherwise. Oddly enough though it is practically impossible to hang at Hammocks State Park due to lack of suitable trees, so I've been told.
