    Boy Scouts need your Help

    Hello Fellow Hangers,
As some of you know I am involved with the Boys scouts. And we are having a council wide Camporee this April. We will have over 3000 scouts in attendance. We are also combining our annual scout hunt fish day with the event. The events midway section will have everything from camping info to fishing and hunting. I am setting up a kayak fishing station as well.

What i wanted to know was if there were any hangers in and around the central NC area that would like to camp out or just come down for the day and setup a station on hammock camping, showing off suspension ideas and insulation. I can see where it would be fun not to mention we would be reaching a ton of folks with a better way to camp.

Dates are April 29th thru may 1st

Let me know if you can help out.

Too bad we're 8 hrs. away.
I'd bring my Backpacking Merit Badge group to show off their DIY Scout hammock kits.

That would be great if we had info on how a scout could make a hammock as well as the expensive gear. with 3000 scouts and leaders and parents. this would also be a good spot for those making gear for sale. no promises but logic would seem to be that it could help.

    Howdy Fishgeek.
I'm in the area and a Den Leader in my son's Cub Scout pack in Elon... also in ONS Council.
Not sure of my schedule that weekend, but I may be able to do it. Could be a fun thing to take my son to.
If you look at my site you'll see some of the things I've made that I can show and talk about.
    http://gear-report.com/
Might even be able to make some stuff there... soft shackles, whoopies...

Also, MacEntyre is in High Point. You might consider PMing him, if you haven't already, to see if he is interested.

Where is it going to be?
Since my son is just a Cub Scout, we've only been to Woodfield. Don't know anything about the ONS camp for Boy Scouts yet. Is it Cherokee?

    PM me if you like.

    Good question, John.
I don't want to speak for Fishgeek. I suspect he'll check this thread soon and will reach out to you.
If not, let me know and we'll work something out.
Probably got 4-5 weeks before the details need to be worked out.

    Question

Last time I volunteered to help BSA friends with something, I was told I had to pass a background check and sign some oath/agreement/contract for the BSA. I pass background checks for working with foreign exchange students and local boys home all the time. But not about to sign anything for the BSA. They are not my cup of tea, shall we say.

But raises the question, wouldn't any adult attending the council and volunteering, being a vendor, whatever, have to do the same? Not trying to raise a stink; just a word to the wise.
