Observation: It takes a lot longer to pick out straight, clear legs than it does to make the stand after you get home. In my area 2x2's that are acceptable are rare indeed. I have ended up using 2x3's because of that. hppyfngy, thanks for the nod on T nuts, I will have to give them a try.

The big box stores typically have lousy ones for certain. Go to a real lumber yard and ask for "clear or better" and you don't even have to pick through them.

BTW, I have to credit Jay, ptsal I think was the name, for the tee nuts idea.

To me it looks like Gomez Adams.

Holy Crap, I've been using that avatar for many many years on a number of forums and nobody ever guessed it...

Well I came upon a happy accident last night.

When I built my sister her original hammock, I suspended it with dogbones to descender ring/buckle to tree straps.

Lo and behold when I gave her her new stand the descender ring suspension slips right over the end of the ridge pole making her hammock convertible without even having to switch out suspension.

Surely that was the result of extensive prior planning.

Of course that will be my story eventually, but I figured you guys wouldn't let me get away with it.
