I just bought 8.5 yds of Light Effects thread made by DMC. The website says that the thread with an E at the beginning of the color number is reflective. Haven't tried it yet. Does anyone have any experience with this product?
Does it reflect light well?
I was thinking I would sew some into my guy lines so they would reflect flashlight at night.
Any comment are appreciated.

DMC is prolific manufacturer of embroidery supplies. As such I have my doubts that a single line of embroidery thread would be effective in the application you are talking about. It is most likely to function best in a large unit of the thread together, such as a mirror in an embroidery. I think my wife has played around with it and found it worked as a surface but not as a single stripe.Originally Posted by Jcavenagh
Edit: I would think a better option would be mylar strips. Cut up an old deflated metallic helium balloon and use those shiney strips to tie onto the guy lines.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as I looked at it in my basement, lights off headlamp on. This stuff is for making reflective embroidery and I can see how it would work in that application. Oh well, I kept the receipt.
OK, so does anyone know where I might get some reflective thread and NOT have to pay $7 for shipping a $2.50 spool of thread??

Again.. I would suggest mylar strips. Uninflated mylar balloons are usually fairly cheap ($2-3) but the dead ones left over from parties and gifts are usually thrown away and as such free. Shops will occasionally get a defective balloon that will not hold helium. They might be will to make a deal on one.

You could always just start with reflective guyline if what you want is to be able to see your guy lines.
