Cool quote. I would go that weekend, but I am going to be floating down the river on a canoe trip. 3 days of hammocking and canoing. Can't wait.

I'm still gonna try and go that weekend although I may just do an overnighter on Saturday/Sunday so I don't have to take off work on Friday.

If KY and RRG wasnt such a drive, Id go for sure! Are there any options for central or eastern TN?

What about Memorial Day weekend in May? Most of us may not have recovered from TrailDays tho!

yep, we should be able to find a nice place to hike & hammock in southern NC or northern georgia that would better accommodate some of the southern hammockers.
my work & financial situation keep me from trying to drive to far for a camp out right now. otherwise, i would be willing to go farther.
i would like to see RRG sometime but another backpacker from my area told me that the last stretch is all mountain roads & takes a considerable amount of driving time. so for future reference, some of you more familiar w/ RRG, which roads would you take coming from NC & what would you estimate driving time on the lesser roads? thanks. ...tim

Tim, do mapquest to Slade, Ky from your place. I am thinking you would be on the interstate except when you had to get off on the parkway going towards Slade, Ky

yep, i did look at map quest when you guys first started talking about RRG.
most of the way is on interstate but best i can remember & according to the guy here i talked to, there's a pretty good haul on small mountain roads (maybe 2 or 3 hours) after getting off the interstate hwy.
he may be exaggerating though & it's hard to tell from map quest just how twisty those roads are. that's why i was asking. i thought some of you who have been there could say "it takes me about this long to go from this point to this"... that is if any of you have driven in from my direction.

there are no long twisty backcountry roads to get to Slade. A lot depends on if you have to setup a shuttle in RRG. If you do you can be on the country backroads but no where near the time your friend said. Last time we were there it took an hour or less to set up a shuttle
