Gear Guide 12X12 as a winter tarp?

Has anyone had and experiance or luck with using a Gear Guide 12X12 as a winter tarp? If so how much coverage can you get with it? Can you enclose a hamock in a similar maner as a Speer Winter tarp or a Warbonnet Superfly? Does anybody know of an inexpensive full coverage tarp for somebody who car camps so weight is not an issue?

I have set mine up that way. There is coverage for two, hanging side by side. You need to sew two tabs onto it so that you can hang it on the square.

Can you close up the ends?

Yes. There are 4 tabs per side of the tarp. Stake out the central 2 on each side, and there's enough material left on the corners to overlap some. For the money, you can't beat it. Just my .02

I've played around with mine and yes, I've been able to form a flap at the ends to close it up a bit. I haven't sewed any new tabs on mine, just using the ones on it. Sewing new tabs would make this tarp work even better at being able to have flaps at the ends. I wonder why the makers of this tarp didn't put tabs at the middle points in the first place??? They sure put tabs everywhere else!!!

    Just ordered one.

I probably won't ever order from them again...that relentless, aggressive merchandising they do is just too irritating. I wouldn't give them my email addy...can't imagine the amount of spam that would let in.

The good new is Guide Gear doesn't share your info.

The bad news is you do get about 3 emails a week touting their latest offers.

Their customer support is great and so is their warranty.

Got my new 12X12 yesterday and all I can say is "Wow! this thing is freakin' huge!". I think I now have a tarp that both my hammocks will fit under. This may get the signifigant other to join me in the woods........I definitely see that I will be putting tie-outs in the middle of the tarps four sides to hang it on the square and maybe pull some kind of shelter out of it. I now have to figure out what to do with all that extra stuff sack that came with it, I was able to fold it up and only use about half of the sack!!!!!
