    Talking Black Cat

I've been reading quite a few threads in regards to the MacCat Deluxe, and have found a lot of info on BB's Black Cat as well, including the directions page. I love it! What a killer design!! HC4U, what are the chances of you helping me make one of these tarps if I buy all the materials and the beer?

It is too bad we live nowhere near each other. I am working on one right now and I am going to begin a larger version than the one I am making now. I have been working on the small one for a couple weeks. But I did take a week to make that Excel calculator for the BlackCat directions.

Bummer! I hope to talk HC4U into giving me guidance on this if he has the time and is so inclined. I'll keep ya posted (no pun intended)!

I would be glad to help.

I made a cat tarp a while back. It is not too hard. Not the first sewing project I would take. But there are others who have and came out ok.

I think if you take it slow, measure and pin everything, and make a good pattern it is not that hard.

Let me know if you hve any questions. BB directions are really straightfoward though.

I also have a cat cut hex tarp under my belt.

HE is right. This was a hard project. We would probably need to meet up and get some basic sewing skills down. Some snake skins or stuff sacks are pretty easy and can give you a good foundation for a project like a tarp.

Yes, Pin! This is very good advice. I didn't and I ended up getting really mad. Now I need to find my pins. I seems to have lost them.

Pinning the perimeter for the rolled hem is no big deal. After all it's on the edge so who cares if it leaks. You can probably to the flat-felled seam without pinning pretty well. Maybe use paperclips to hold it together till it gets real close to the needle. Even if you do pin it for the flat-felled seam you'll be sealing the completed ridgeline anyways.
I made one out of DWR successfully and didn't think it was all that difficult. I've got Sil to make another one as soon as I can find the time to get it going. Sil may be a little more difficult since it's more slippery. The biggest problem I had was dealing with all bulk of material while sewing. BB has solved a lot of that by using the binder clips.

I didn't pin the GGR. To me it was easier to line it up and sew a few inches at a time. I did pin it to start and help hold it in place. I would pin the ridgeline seam. I didn't and mine did not come out the best.

Man you guys are really making it hard for me not to make my own. I am starting to feel funny. A strange voice in my head keeps telling me "Must Make Tarp, Must Make Tarp"
Yosemite Sam: Are you trying to make me look a fool?
Bugs: You don't need me to make you look like a fool.
Yosemite Sam: Yer deerrrnnn right I don't!
