Okay, I have narrowed down my decision.....NOT

Who knew there was sooooo much to chose from. Trying to narrow down my choices before i go to crazy and spend all my hard earned money on things. I so hate sleeping on the ground anymore so I am bound and determined to try hangin around. Now for me, i'm a pretty big guy so looking for something to support something around 136kg/300lbs. So here are my choices......uggg what to chose stinks. Note, i am aware i didn't chose an UQ yet. However here it goes.

Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Hammock Pro $79.95
    Grand Trunk TreeSlings $19.95
    Kelty Noah's Tarp 12 $67
    Total $166.90

Hammock Bliss No-See-Um no More $78.95
    Hammock Bliss Tree Straps $19.25
    Kelty Noah's Tarp 12 $67
    Total $165.20

    ENO DoubleNest Hammock $50.73
    ENO Bug Net $57.95
    Kelty Noah's Tarp 12 $67
    ENO SlapStrap $19.90
    Total $195.58

Blackbird Double Layer 1.7 (olive green) $175
Whoopie Slings and tree straps $25
    Kelty Noah's Tarp 12 $67
    Total $267

BIAS DOuble Layer Olive Green WW $110
    Suspension/Whoopies/Dutchware Hooks $21.50
    Buginator $65
    Ridgline/Dutchware Ridgeline Biners $12.50
    Kelty Noah's Tarp 12 $67
    Total $276

    DD Hammock COMBO $209
    *2012 Frontline Hammock
    *DD Tarp (Olive 3m x 3m)
    *DD Hammock Sleeve
    *DD Sleeper
    *15m Cord
    *Whistle
    *Rucksack
DD Tree Hanging Suspension Kit $51
    Total $260

    Clark Jungle Hammock Flex-180 $441.99
    Vertex Tarp
    Tree Straps
PRO-Room for gear inside or extra person (kids)
    CON-3 season, less pockets, etc

    Clark Jungle Hammock NX-250 $441.99
    Rain Fly XL
    Tree Straps
PRO-Plenty of underneath storage, 4 season
    CON-No room for my Kids

Now the Clark ones really impress me and I like the idea that while the 250 is what they call 4 season, for the exact same price i can get the flex-180 and perhaps one of my kids can join me on occasion till they want their own hammock.

The Clark dreaming asside. I'm leaning to DD Hammock as the combo deal is hard to beat (tarp, sleeve and sleeper included). But I also like the reviews on here for the WBBB 1.7 (though their sock is insanely priced, someone at WB is smoking something) However by the time I add the UQ, TQ, etc to the cheaper versions, I start getting into the Clark price ranges.

Now for the question......Not asking for reviews of said hammocks as I'm sure i won't know which one is for me till i'm sleeping in one. However of each combo above (for those with experience with them) are their peices I should consider switching out for different items, tarp, etc that might change my strategy on the groupings?

Wow this is a lot longer then I planned it to be.

Yes, buy at least one of each, come to all the hangs and bring plenty of snacks. Really, buy them all but buy the BlackBird first, that way you will not be wondering why you didn't buy one of those while you are buying others, You will Know! But it isn't for everyone, but i like mine very much.
Predictions are risky, especially when it comes to the future.

Actually, there are a few more questions to be asked before answering your question...

Are you backpacking or car camping?

How old are the kids you may be sharing your set up?

What seasons are you planning on being in the trees?

Is there a group hang in the near future within driving distance you can attend and actually try some out before you buy?

    What is your real budget?

+1 on the suggestion from Mule to buy the WBBB - it's resale value on here is unbelievable so if you don't like it you can turn it.

Also if you think of going the ENO route, don't even think about their slap strap suspension.

    Welcome to the fun!!!

Broke down like the above, yep probably the WBBB.

But I don't care for bugnets I can't take off, and the Dutchware, although wonderful candy, bumps the BIAS price up at least 20 bucks. You can go w/o for a starter set-up, but who am I foolin'! Everybody wants Dutch stuff sooner or later.

Single layer will also bring the BIAS rig down considerably. Handy, but not needed, and when you move into UQ's, the second layer will have minimal use over weight savings.

Tarp choices are different for me too, but that's HYOH as is the rest. Choosing between pricing charts, will never work as well as finding a hang somewhere, and just trying out the different rigs.

I would still choose one or more of our own cottage venders over any of the cookie cutter BB offerings in a heartbeat.

It is extremely comforting to know that you own a piece of gear, made by active HF members, who allow their product to come under constant scrutiny on a daily basis, from such an informed consumer base, then stand behind said product personally, accepting both compliments and criticism, in stride, with both grace and efficiency.

I know of at least one vender, who got in his vehicle and traveled 500 miles or better to perform a field repair on a piece of his merchandise, so an HF member did not have to call his section hike. Name me your contact at Eno, GT, HH, that's going to do that?

There is certainly more to measure than total price.

I love the BIAS WWDL, it is the bomb. I would give up on the idea of sharing your hammock, if you intend to both sleep in it at the same time. I don't know the bug situation in MD, but fall and winter are coming so maybe $20 worth if permithrin will get you thru to spring. You can easily get started with out all the bling hardware. More importantly, you might get more help if you can prioritize what is important to you in a hammock. Price, weight, function, color, or delivery time. Hope that helps you out.

the price is about right really (at 85$). the netting version is 65 and that's comparable in price to the eno bug net. the sock fabric itself is about 3 times as expensive as netting and unlike netting it requires more time consuming seams to keep it from fraying so sewing time is signifigantly more.

i think you may be wrongly assuming that the stock clark comes with some kind of insulation. it does not, you'd need to add that to the price of the clark just like you would with any other hammock setup. the clark does come with a weathershield though which boosts interior temps a little, but not even close to enough to go without physical insulation

I'm new so take what I say lightly. I am 6'1 and 285 lbs - 44 inch waist. I bought the DD Frontline and haven't found a really comfortable sleeping position. My head is always rubbing the mosquito netting or my arm is on the netting. When I do upgrade next year it will be to a longer and a bit wider hammock. I can lay at a nice angle but I never sleep in one position all night or I get stiff and sore the next day. There is not enough room in the DD Frontline for us bigger guys to move around much. Just my opinion.
