Some one said to use a zipper foot when installing zippers. What is a zipper foot?
See the linked site. Basically a zipper foot is a narrower presser foot like a single ski that holds the material down. The foot is what you raise and lower to the material. A zipper foot allows you to sew closer to the edge of the zipper.

    Jazilla,

What length/type of zipper did you use for this mod?

I took the zipper from a bag I took apart last summer. It was free with a checking account. Its like 2' or so, not really sure. Its really sturdy and very smooth, I use its brother for my gym bag.
If it where me, I would take 550 cord or thick string and pin it in place along the seem where you want to place the zipper. Cut when you make it fully around the hammock and walla you have the length of zipper you need.

I was going to do the string thing that Jazilla mentioned. Then order the zipper by the foot and add 3 extra feet. It's only like $.15 a foot or something.

I'll do this if the homemade HH thing going on another thread does not work.

What is your application for the zipper?

I have a gear bag similar to yours and hang it so its accessible from the entry slit. I also have a 3' long gear loft I made with 6 sections to it that hold my water bottle, glasses, headlamp, keys, wallet, and reading material. I was curious how you use your zipper and gear bag. What do you need to retrieve from the gear bag once you're in the HH? I know everyone has their own "system" so was wondering if I can improve mine from your experience. Thanks.

Why an extra 3ft if you don't mind me asking?

I would really like a picture of your gear loft.
I guess its just preference plus experimentation. But mainly I installed it as an escape hatch for when the ground dweller come to stop us from taking over.

Really Weaver I just have a tendency to leave things in my pack and I just made the mod and haven't slept out to see how I will use it.

I always try to order extra anytime I do projects. It acounts for the error I ususaly introduce whenever I pick up a type measure. The couple times I order right on the ammount, I have regretted it.

Plus it leaves some for the next idea.

I didn't think engineers were allowed to make errors. They can get pretty costly!

That's not an error, that's a saftey factor. It's allowed.
