15ft x 2 Poly webbing from ratchet straps: $8+getting those **** hooks off

Two walmart 'biners - 300lb rated: $5 total

Tarp: Either 8x10 standard poly tarp or Outdoor Products 5x7: $10

Total price was $30.96 + tax

if you want a bugnet you can pick one up for ~10 or DIY and you can pick up a 30° sleeping bag for around $30.

These two (optional/winter) accessories bring the total to 70.96. Not under 50 but considering how old this thread is its pretty close.
What's the weight of that setup, packed and ready to go?

Not that well...the Embark Travel Blanket got swapped out for a poncho-liner underquilt. The heat has been nutso here in Indiana, so I haven't had a chance to really test it, but I was pretty hot in 70 degrees with it. I've heard of people going down to 50-55 with one.

However, I'll definitely end up using the travel blanket as insulation for a dog bed once it gets cold enough for it.

OK. I'll give it a try.

    BIAS WW Hammock/Suspension 65.00 ~ 12 oz

    Knotty Mods 20.00 ~ 2 oz

    Toxaway Tarp 95.00 ~ 14 oz

    Tarp Ridgeline + Tie outs 26.00 ~ .70 oz

    CCF Blue Pad 6.00 ~ 7 oz

    $212.00 ~ 2.975 lb

*You can go cheaper on the Tarp RL. Prices & Specs on TRL taken from Sgt Rock's kit, so you probably can't go any, better or lighter. Thnx Rock!

So this is very close to a $200 dollar, Sub 3 lb kit w/o bugnet sans top insulation.

You'd need a bug net and bottom insulation. You're talking at least another $60 ($50 is about as cheap as you can get a net, $10 for a CCF pad).

That comes to $194.99. Not bad!

    My gear on the cheap:
    - Hammock: Butt In A Sling Weight Weenie Hammock with suspension kit and ridgeline: $55 (8.5 oz. hammock + 4 oz. for suspension = 12.5 oz.).
    - Net: BIAS Buginator Net - $60 (8.8 oz.)
    - Tarp: Hammock Bliss Shelter - $50 (17 oz.)
    - Bottom insulation - CCF Pad - $10 (7 oz.)
    Total - $175/2.83 lbs.

Question the cheapest hammock with a insect net

I am looking for the cheapest hammock with a insect net. So far, I am considering the Byer of Maine Moskito Traveller Hammock for about $40 and the Grand Trunk Ultralight Skeeter Beeter Hammock for about $60. Are their cheaper alternatives with a net?

I also plan on getting a camo tarp; any suggestions? Thanks.

Byer hammock I'd pass on, the lines they use to suspend the hammock (instead of a traditional gathered end or other type of hammock) aren't very trustworthy. I'd look elsewhere. Also, the bug netting is very thin.

After my purchases and trial & error, I think DIY is the way to go, unless you can find a used setup somewhere.
