Wow! Absolutely great explanations and pictures! Question, the no-see-um sewn in tubes, right?

Jeff has some good tips on how to keep it neat and tidy while you are sewing the baffles - it really helped me : http://www.tothewoods.net/RedRiverGo...orgeQuilt.html

I think it becomes clear once you start actually doing it- it's not as hard as you think it might be! At least that was my experience.

In terms of sewing the darts, I was happy to take a shortcut and just gather small amounts of excess fabric under the presser feet as I went along rather than sewing in the darts - it seems to work just as well and might save a small amount of time

Not fully...the noseeum forms the baffles, or "walls" of the tubes that the down is stuffed into. The inner and outer shells form the top, bottom, and ends of the tube.

I didn't do any work on it today, but I'll take pictures of the open end before I start stuffing so you can see what I'm talking about.

For the darts, I did six 2.5 inch (roughly) pinches, and took up the slack with the center one...I think it was a little under 2 inches in order to get both the inner and outer shell ends to be 44 inches wide.

Well...all of the major sewing is done. All that it left is to stuff, seal, and string it! I have my grosgrain channels/ tieouts sewn on 3 of 4 sides.

Forgive the mess. If my basement wasn't so full of junk, I would have never found the 2 thread injectors that were left there by my grandmother and my mom

Here's a pic of it "hanging" for the first time:

A picture showing the inner shell, and the unsewn, about-to-be-stuffed end:

Diva, since you were asking about baffles, here's what they look like inside the quilt once sewn. You can see how the inner shell forms the top of the tube, the outer shell forms the bottom, and the noseeum forms the sides of the tubes:

And finally, for comparison's sake...here's a pic of my 3/4 length Summer Phoenix hanging above the DIY UQ:

I'm in the home stretch!. Time to break out the backpacking tent, shop-vac, and scale, and start stuffing! Each chamber will be getting 2.1 oz of down. Which is about 20% overstuff. I'm guessing it will weigh about 30 oz when all is said and done, including the suspension. I may have overbuilt it, but it'll be warm, that's for sure. We shall see.

    Looks Awesome

Your a braver man that I am. Haven't tried anything that difficult yet. Need to improve my thread injecting skills before trying a DIY quilt of any kind.

Well..hit a major snag. It was inevitable.

I've ran out of down. It turns out that the "28 oz of 100% down, 750 fill power" pillow was actually about 8 oz of beautiful, fluffy down without a single feather, and an "inner" pillow of about 20 oz of almost pure feathers

So now I have to try to source some down...quickly. I need around 11 oz if using 800 fill power, 10 oz for 900 fill power, and 12ish oz for 750 fill power. I tried calling HammockGear to see if they had any in stock, since they are only about an hour away, and left a message.

Tree-to-tree has 800FP in stock at $6.50/oz. Anyone know of any other places around that price that could get it here by Saturday (I know I'll have to pay extra shipping, but I need this quilt done before the 20th)
