Hammock camping at Carolina Beach State Park?

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge as to whether hammock camping is allowed at the state park? I'm going to shoot them an email but I thought I'd check here first. I'm thinking of planning another motorcycle hammocking trip.

According to the rangers at Falls Lake SRC there's no regulation prohibiting hammock camping. They actually welcomed it at Shinleaf. Carolina Beach should operate under the same regulations, but I wouldn't trust a drive from Charleston on it.

Yeah I'd call or email for sure before I head up.

North Carolina State Parks have no rules against hammock use in any of the parks. However I'd give them a call to ensure that a hammock is even feasible. A lot of beaches don't have the trees necessary to support a hammock afterall.

I've yet to camp at Shinleaf, walked around there one day last year. All the blow downs at the time had me a slight bit concerned as to how safe it would even be to camp there at all.

Would still like to stay there a night though, if for no other reason to mark it off my todo list.

I <3 Carolina Beach SP and camp there whenever possible. It is in a river and a fair trek to the ocean. Well wooded. You'll have no problem with adequate trees.

Correction: on a river (Cape Fear River), not in one.

this is good to know because i have thought about camping here when I was shocked by hotel prices at the beach.
I am not sure I would be able to convince the Mrs. to go for it.

That's where I saw the biggest Raccoon's I have ever seen! They would assault the trash cans every night with a vengeance. That was years ago though so hopefully they have animal proof trash receptacles by now.
And if I recall, isn't that where the Venus Fly Traps grow?

Close by...if you do find one in the wild, leave it alone as it is protected and it is illegal to harvest them.

Absolutely, This can't be stressed enough. From what I was told it is a rare and small area in which they thrive. This was probably 20 years ago when I was there and we took a suggested nature walk and did get to see them.
Another thing I also remember is we were fool enough to camp there in mid-summer and the mosquito population was in mass and brutal.
