try misting it with some water

I remember years ago when we would rub our feet across the carpet in the school library and built up a static charge and find a fellow student to shock. The librarian would take out a spray bottle with water and mist the carpet to stop our fun.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

Wash it, by hand or gentle cycle.
    Hang it to dry.
