    Backpacking

Usually overnighters, but some two day, and twice a year a weeker.
Should be thru-hiking after school in 2012.

I carry about 25-30 depending on the season, but am trying to get lighter.
    The wife carries 15-20 depending.

Looking at getting lighter so that I can carry more kitchen goods, so we can eat better, and there for hike happier. I am an eater.

    Kayaking

I usually take the bare minimum, only done overnite trips so far - would like to do a two niter, though. I like to go out to Cumberland Is off Georgia Coast and Mosquito Lagoon down by Cocoa Beach.

I have an image of you quickly setting up a tent with a water bed and disco ball to "entertain" the ladies ?

My camping life is divided into two parts. Part one is most of my life up until ~12 years ago. Back then, camping meant throwing a sleeping bag and a canteen and a bag of munchies on the back of my three-wheeler and heading up into the mountains with my friends. Or some variation of that theme. Very minimalist.
Nowadays I'm just getting back into camping. Too many years hunched over a computer, I NEED to get out into the woods!

    Currently...

--I have been doing car camping trips, though I want to get more into backpacking trips.

--Base weight before food or extra clothing = ~18 pounds (could be much better, 5+ pound tent, 5+ pound pack, TWO self inflating pads, etc)

--1-3 days so far, but some longer ones are planned!

--I have 2 trips down and 4 more trips planned this year so far. Hope to add a winter trip or two later on, just need to buy some winter gear first!

It's been crazy, all of my old gear is long gone, so I'm having to completely re-outfit myself from scratch this year. Thank goodness for REI scratch-n-dent sales!

I'm gonna get a kickin' for saying this but I don't get to hang too often though I camp out basically every weekend from May to October. I hike, kayak, dual sport (street and trail bike), car camp and if I can't get away I setup in the backyard. I'm blessed in that my wife shares all my hobbies. That being said, the ultralight hammock isn't conducive as a two person shelter, so tenting is the 1st option. However, if my wife isn't able to join in, the hammock is the only option. I don't need to tell you all but even after a year of use, I still can't get over how comfortable that thing is.

For hiking my pack weighs roughly 25 - 30lbs (includes food, water and wine and/or beer and/or whisky). I usually do overnighters 5-7 miles. The pack is heavier when using the bike or kayak.
If I had to choose between staying in or going out, I'd rather be me!

Backpacking I guess. I use it to shorten approaches to mountains and make the drive into the park the day before the climb instead of 4:45 in the morning.

Pack usually weighs 30-40 lbs (Stupid bear can) Although when you add skis, other boots, crampons... well it gets heavy.

Backpacking. (Though kayak camping sounds pretty awesome. I need to try that.)

I go from 2-4 days at a time with 18-24 lbs and I like doing loops or sections. I really don't like out and back trips. For some reason, hiking back over the same trail I just hiked makes me feel like I haven't accomplished much.

To those who do the out and back, much props. I don't know how you do it.
