When I said "failed testing", I was thinking of Gregg3's post:
Just bringing it up cause I tried to go lighter this past weekend and use this nylon rope cleat thing I found at Lowes, rated for 200 lbs ( I weigh 210 - what was I thinking? . It didn't slip but broke in half after about 5 minutes. I pitched over soft grass in the backyard but got that head slap thing, headache for a couple hours , so I'm back to the biners (or the crazy creek thing for webbing on the speer)

    Just thought I'd mention it.
Is he talking about the same product, the same nylon rope cleat?

Downside is the weight of two biners but they are making them lighter and lighter every year. I rock climb so I already have bunches of biners, so I use this for the HH and it works fine (cant get a taughtline or prussick to not slip on the HH rope), but I know this is probably not palatable for the UL crowd.

Do you think you could use this wrap with rings attached to the tree hugger? Kind of like the reverse desending ring setup

Should try the Hitchcraft tie. Several people tested and the Monster holds 500 lbs (but requires rope .25" or more). Weighs 3 oz, and you really only need one to have easy adjustment. Use a bowline knot on the other end.

my biners are 1.2 oz each so 2.4 oz for each adjustable connection and they are good for 23kN (several thousand lbs). The Garda is easy to adjust/release but hey I'm prejudiced. There are lighter biners out there too, but I already have these wire gate jobbies.

what i tried was not the panther cleat zig zag thing, it looked more like the clam cleat type of deal with the notch with the chevrons. It split in half down the center where the rope wedged in.

PS Sorry about the scary avatar - this is my painting of Chet, a trumpet player, famous in trumpet player circles. 10 points to anyone who knows his last name!

I'm wondering how you tension that garda hitch. I'd think you'd pull on the slack end, but is there a specific direction you should pull?

I have tied mine on differently than Just Jeff's page suggests, though, and use the method shown in BlackBishop351's pictures.
Angrysparrow and anyone who gets knots!!!!

I got all the items I need to change to buckles and looked at yours' /Blackbishop's knot from the above listed pic. I can't figure out how to tie it (pls don't laugh TOO hard). Any help from anyone? Thanks

Ha, Ha, Ha, He, He, He......Just kiddin
I'm no knot expert but I play one in the woods....Knot.
Seriously, I've had great succes with the ascender knot tied off with a bowline.
Very similar to the Prussik type knot as theirs. Hammock Engineer is using
    this knot on his thru-hike.
