I wonder what the weight limit is for cuben fiber hammocks? Since i weigh over 200 pounds right now, i don't see one in my immediate future. Perhaps next year after some long hikes....

I've made a hammock out of $1/yard fabric for a total cost (including rope)
of <$6. If I use your argument, is everyone, who pays more than $6 for a hammock, guilty of something to do with hunger in Africa? I think it would be
less than kind to insinuate such a thing.

You used to be able (perhaps you still can) to buy CF material directly from
the manufacture for between $14.50 & $16.50 a yard. The Cuben Fiber Corp.
was bought by North Sails and the division is now called North Cuben Fiber , LLC.
I have not dealt with them since the buyout.

CF material is not breathable and as such I do not use a Cuben hammock in
hot weather. If you sleep naked, I suspect it will feel like sleeping on Saran wrap.

Quest Outfitters has it, or you can try dealing directly with the manufacture.
Dealing with the manufacture was often tedious and frustrating. Hopefully this has changed.

CF is manufactured in 48" & 54" widths depending on the type of sailcloth you want.

There are many "different" Cuben sailcloths made, each with its own weight holding capability. With the right sailcloth, 200+ lb. is no problem.

Would it be possible to sew an extra strip along the bottom center of the hammock to increase the weight capacity, or would the sewing holes weaken the strength of it all?

Hmmmm, interesting question. I think it would work, but I would use tape instead of sewing. However I can't say that sewing wouldn't work.
I would make sure the extra strip extended the entire length of the hammock
and was incorporated into the gathered ends.

It may be cheaper, easier, and lighter to get Cuben sailcloth of sufficient strength so as to eliminate the need for a reenforcing strip.
