    Whoopie Alternative?

So, I hear that whoopie slings are the way to go as far as suspension is concerned. I'm simply wondering if anyone has tried this alternative. I've got some 1/4 inch cord (rated to 800 some pounds, not your standard paracord) and am thinking that I could simply put a taught line hitch, making the equivalent of a whoopie sling. Does that sound like it would work? Does anyone know? Has anyone tried? If the idea works, I imagine that it could be used on any HH setup just as well... Just thinking. Happy Hammocking everyone!

Also, I'm using the marlin spike hitch technique for attaching to tree straps, that's the plan at least.

You could spice the rope to make a pretty equal match.

Why don't you try it and let us know how it works for you. I suggest you start close to the ground & give yourself a soft landing spot.

IMHO, I don't think a standard taut line hitch on 1/4" cord will hold your body weight, particularly over the course of a couple of hours of moving around in your hammock. That being said, I've never tried it. Additionally, I think there are other slide & grip knots that hold better than a taut line hitch, the adjustable grip hitch, for example.

Anyways...good luck & be sure to report on your results!

Tough to trump a whoopie sling made out of amsteel.
But yeah....try your idea and give us a report)))))) I am uncertain if it would work well but only true way to know is to give it a go.
Give us a full report of your success or fiasco.

    Whoopie Alternative?

The taught line hitch is a great knot, I use it all the time. You can make it grab better by giving it a couple extra wraps before the last overhand. It may hold your weight, but I think it will be VERY hard to loosen and slide again afterwards

Thanks for the input! I will try it out for sure. I just didn't want to drop any dough on amsteel (I know it's pretty cheap, but my budget is TIGHT). We will see what happens!

26' of Amsteel (enough for 2 whoopies IIRC) is $5.98 at Redden Marine and I think they ship free in Feb (LOVEFISH is the discount code).

You can make UCRs with more adjustability and only use 10' of amsteel for each side... So you can save weight, bulk, and cost by going to UCRs...
Live, Laugh, Love, if that doesn't work. Load, Aim and Fire, repeat as necessary...
