    Just starting out

A hiking buddy and I are just starting to venture into hanging.

I just bought a WBBB off the forum, but need everything else..... tarp, underq, overq.... We'll likely be out there in all 4 seasons..... everything except the coldest of the cold months.

He needs everything (like I said, just starting out).

We are needing to do this somewhat on the cheap, but want reliable, usable equipment.

I'm not crying poverty here and asking for freebie handouts, but if any of you have multi-duplicates of usable gear just sitting around..... We could put a few bucks in your pocket, and you could help us hit the trail without breaking the bank.

Please PM me with any ideas or interests.

    Thanks,
    jd

    welcome,
if you already have backpacking gear you can easily adapt most of it to hammocking, you can slide your sleeping pad between the layers of your wbbb and use your sleeping bag as a top quilt, i went so far as to rip the zipper and hood off of my cats meow bag to cut weight and make it more user friendly for the hammock
    good luck

If you can sew or know someone who can, making a gathered end hammock only takes about an hour and is really inexpensive. Instructions on the forum here.

Have the pad, my bag is synthetic and a bit heavy/bulky.

I have considered both options you mentioned, was just exploring the possibilities of stumbling upon some used stuff that might be available reasonably.

Thanks, if I'm not able to find him a decent used hammock, thats probably the route he'll have to go. Lack of spare time leaves you wanting to spend time using the gear instead of making it.... but it is a good option.

This would be a lot easier if my hiking buddy would join the rest of the human race and become computer literate. I think he may be the last person on the planet that refuses to use the internet. My 9 year old daughter even teases him about it.

Also, and while this was slapped down earlier today, I recomend you start with THIS FIRST VIDEO. HEY, it's on Youtube and absolutely FREE.

Some of us think he's funny to. Watch it on youtube and watch all 9 of the Hammock How To videos, and any other ofthe 130+ he has up there.

Thanks for the offer, but we were hoping to go with the more "rugged" hammocks out there..... hennessy, WBBB, etc.

    MrClean, thanks

I've watched all of them a few times before.
There's a lot of info there in an entertaining format.
