If you are looking to split the distance the Arrowhead Campground in the Uwharries is perfect. Some campsites there are very close to the lake and fishing/boating is great. Day trips can take you over to Morrow Mtn State Park or Town Creek Indian Mound.

I camped at Umstead one night, but never again. So close to the airport it sounds like planes are going 50 feet over your head all night long.

Check out Raven Rock State Park, it's a nice spot. It's about an hour south of Raleigh.

I have been to uwharrie several times. The only item I am not sure of is running water. We have been to the southern end of the uwharrie trail and also to yates place. Both perfect for hammocks, but no water spickets. There are several streams where you could get access to water. Me and my son use my sawyer squeeze and for the yates place hang we had several people bring water. We never came close to using it all up and we used it for cooking and cleaning. There was access to a stream at yates place but it was either a good walk or short drive( .5 miles or less I believe.)

In that same area as the uwharrie is the badin lake area and morrow mountain. They both have ample space for hangs and they are they have set aside camping areas with water, bathrooms and electrical. With that comes a fee and you would need to make reservations. All of these options are beautiful.

I guess it depends on how many people are attending and what there levels of experiences are. If you have many and they are noobs then badin or morrow, or if you want privacy and can do some planning then uwharrie. Let me know if you need more details I have a some books on the region. PM me if you want to barrow one.

I was at the southern end of the Uwharrie this past weekend and there is no running water. I think Badin Lake rec area has running water.

No running water at Yates either. There is water at Kings Mountain point and Arrowhead though.

I think we've just about settled on Morrow Mountain. Any idea if they're cool with hammocks?

When I was there in the back country, no one was there to care.
