Here was something I was looking at that's about 23.5 miles form Wed. to Friday. I wanted to make for a short day on Friday so when I get into Damascus I'd have lots fo energy.

    Tuesday Evening
Camp at Elk Garden. Bring water for evening and next morning. No water marked on map. No spring or reliable water source for 2 miles in either direction here. Closest Water is at Deep Gap and Whitetop

    Wednesday
Hike from Elk Garden to Lost Shelter. 8 miles. Atleast 4 solid water sources this day. I'd carry no more than a liter at a time personally.

    Thursday
Hike 10 miles to US/Straight Branch campsite. No water at campsite Looks like stream close by. I know nothing about this camping spot. Decent or not? I don't know? If you pass Straight Branch and go about a mile further to Feathercamp Branch there is water also about a mile before Straight Branch

    Friday
Hike 5.5 miles to Damascus. No water between Feathercamp and Damascus.

Anyone familiar with these spots and can tell me details on water and camping?

    Thanks for info Wrongturn.

OK, I'm in for Option #2. Hooch and Dancer, I'll meet you Tuesday evening to camp at Whitetop Mtn Rd/USFS 89. JD and I will probably be there in the late evening before it gets dark.

Are you guys going to hang during trail days, when the hike is over? Just askin because if I make it this year, it would be cool to hang with yall (if you are in fact hanging during the fest).

    Thanks!

I'm going for plan 2 as well. I'll meet the group at Whitetop Tuesday afternoon, and plan on staying at Lost Mountain Wed night. After that I might try to make it to Feathercamp Branch Thurs.

I'm planning to hang at Trail Days! Are there lots of options for hangers or will there be 2 trees that we're all fight over? This will be my first TD experience.

Mine too, hopefully if I get to go. I'm curious about hanging.

Happy Camper I'd see if JD could scout and save a spot for you. With the baseball field fiasco this year, all space will be at a premium. I'm not planning on staying. I'll most likely hit vendor row Friday afternoon and then beat feet back up to Wise that night. Got a bachelor party to go to Saturday night and then wedding rehearsal Sunday.

Thanks. Good idea! I'll send a decoy hammock with JD and have him string it up in a good spot for me!
