I have to agree with the "big tarp" theory. It makes changing clothes without scaring the crap out of people a lot easier.

plus most campers are polite. if they notice what you're doing, they quickly give you privacy.
On my overnighter in Big Sur I had no problems changing - I had a big tarp. What I was really iffy about was the small wooden box privy in the wide open, on the side of the steep hill over the campground, six feet downhill from the trail. It was one of those "well, this isn't what I thought I would use the huge poncho for" moments.
Yeah I love those box in the open ones. Smell way nicer than the enclosed ones. They're great when it is wide open with no leaves on the trees. Great way of breaking the ice when you meet new people.Originally Posted by lori

Yeah, I got introduced to some of those at Philmont a few years back. Interesting to say the least when popping a squat wth several other troops about 150 yards away.

I remember using the privy at Mt. Rogers, at the Wise shelter, at the first winter camp out. It's one of the open privies. I was sitting on the pot at about 8:00 am in the morning with snow falling and beautiful mountains around me. It was and incredibly nice way to take a crap.
