There can't be that many yards of fabric in a hammock...I assume that is what the weight of the fabric is measuring (2.5 oz per yard and 1.9 oz per yard).
    Thanks.
Just to clarify, it's the square yard not the linear yard. So, say your hammock is 10' long by 5' wide gives 50 sq ft/ 9 sq ft in a sq yd = 5.56 sq yd x 1.9 oz/yd = 10.56 oz total weight of the fabric.

You right...thank you for the clarification. It is about a 3 oz difference between the two fabrics I am looking at.
I am leaning towards the taffeta...I had one "vote" for it a few posts back, and it is also what Papa Smurf suggested.
Time to order my first hammock!!!!!!

I wanted something just a smidge bit heavier than the 1.1 so I went with a Breathable, Calendared single layer of 60" wide 1.5oz ripstop Nylon. I'll be trying it out within a few weeks, someone previously mentioned the "mosquito" issue, wonder how the single layer of 1.5 will do against them?

I haven't looked it up my self but I was talking to a friend about this issue the other day. He said that a mosquito's proboscis is only able to go through one layer of clothing, don't know what the thickness limitation is. But, they are unable to go through two layers because of the overlap of the two weaves, not a straight shot through.
