My question was about the Switchback vs jerry 5. The jerry 5 net is symmetrical as is the Switchback. I would think both would allow a left or right lay. Or am I wrong?

I'm curious to to see if there is a more effecient way to get the tighter bug net than simply laying over the rigdeline and pining. Though it seems that it would work, does it not create a great deal of excess cut off netting? Seems wasteful.

I am not familiar with a Jerry #5 net, but I'll offer this for clarification.

A WBBB style net is cut to a point at the ends, just like a gathered end hammock comes to a point. Once it is sewn in, the hammock cannot be "un-gathered."

A Switchback style net is cut the same size & shape as the hammock material before gathering. In other words, a rectangle. The net is seen around all four sides, THEN the hammock is gathered or cinched. This leaves excess netting, hence the shock cord lifters to form the peak of the net.

    Thanks for the link.
The Jerry net is the same style as the WBBB that I described above. I have found that these nets do restrict the ability to switch diagonals and should be cut asymmetrical to fit one specific diagonal.

The Switchback style has the extra net material making gymnastics possible within the hammock. (But, is more netting).

I agree it is similar to the WBBB. I just don't understand how a symmetrical bug net would limit to a head left, feet right. The netting is a mirror image left to right. While it has a designated head and foot end. The diagonal is not determined.

I think the key to the Jerry 5 net is the material suspended under the net. After looking at my WBBB the netting when staked out appears to be taught but the extra fabric below the main net canopy allows the hammock body to function independently of the net canopy.
