Ha! We're the last on the Rural Electrification list... after they get through with the holds outs in Appalachia!

I was thinking the test should be in freezing conditions outdoors, with a loaded, non-vertical Whoopie sling under tension.

I have a hard time comparing my hammock suspension, under load in rain and sleet, to a coiled piece of wet Amsteel in a freezer.

    I agree with Mac...

So, tonight I'm going to sleep out again (20* last night) on my deck. I will 'pre-soak' my whoopies and do a field test

Yes there will be padding under the hammock

Anyone have experience with a tautline hitch in icy conditions -- or any other friction knot, for that matter? I'd think they'd have similar problems, if there are any.

    Running Feather,

When it freezes up on you and you are still above ground in the morning , and if it freezes tight, can you try breaking it apart and moving it back and forth and then see if it will hold up under tension again.

Anything can freeze. Buckles to webbing or knots..just hold it in your hands for a second or two to thaw it out. Try to keep your stuff dry.
