    HH Monsoon/Typhoon opinions??

    Good Evening,
I've got a hanging buddy with an HH Backpacker Ultralite that's looking for an upgrade to his tarp setup. I was digging around the HH website and noticed the new line of tarps with "blast doors".

I tried doing several searches here on the forums but don't seem to be finding much about these new tarps. So, who has one and wants to tell us all about it??

I'd like to hear more about them as well. Anyone have the dimensions of the "blast" doors?

Had the the same thoughts as your buddy, so i purchased the 30d Silnylon Typhoon for my Explorer Ultralite.

Wasn't happy with the single tie down on either side on the std tarp,
in high winds the long leading edge of the asym tarp flapped in the wind,
I remember glimpsing the stars above on one particularly wild night while cosily tucked away underneath it....
...also wanted more end protection in horizontal rain situations.

Sizewise, still a fairly small sized tarp.
Extra tie downs are great...feels bullet proof now.
Small pockets to stuff your tie downs into are a good idea.
Hammock & tarp still fits into your snakeskin.
Doors work fine...quick & easy to use.....use both, use one or use none,
as with other 'doored' tarps there is less air circulation,
so you have to raise your tarp ridge line a touch more above your hammock,
when using both end doors, otherwise condensation will get on your noseeum mesh.

All in all, a great little unit.....now to try it out in some more wild weather.

    Hope that helps.

That is a well protected hammock and just plain good looking tarp you've got there ofuros, I wonder if they got the design from a star wars spaceship though it's pretty funky. Interesting to hear that closed ends on a tarp increases the condensation inside too, common sense I guess but I havent experienced any condensation yet even on my last couple of nights out when it pretty much rained the whole time. Which is why I'm now looking for a new, bigger, tarp as well.

    more questions

I didn't quite "get it" from the videos. Do you have to separate the velcro to go in and out, do you just squeeze under the edge, or do you pull one of the toggles/hooks loose? I would think the velcro would degrade pretty quickly if you had to open/close it every time (and be kind of a pain to seal from the inside).

This seems like a lot of coverage for the price. I'm kind of surprised it doesn't cost a bit more. I know the hex fly is quite a bit bigger but I figured the extra stitching (doors, velcro, etc) would cost more than more silnylon. I guess that's the difference in the US cottage industry vs an overseas factory.

    Thanks for the info.....

Yes, just undo the bottom toggle, seperate the velcro & your in.
seal the door back up again ......and get cosy.

If the velcro does wear after a period of time...
...would be easy enough to sew in a new piece.
