My only complaint about that weekend is that its not soon enough.

Dakota and I are good for any time. Would love earlier too...just because.
Just give us a heads up. Please keep the hike into camp down so I can handle our own more proudly (after I have attacked our pack weight issue substantially ) Also so others that aren't as capable can join, with the option of taking day hikes for those who want to. I think everyone should have an opportunity to meet such great people.
Too bad I just caught this thread. I was going to the appalachians last weekend but it fell through. I could have joined everyone. Oh well.
This weekend looks out too. I have both days taken up - unless anyone wants to hang in NE ohio somewhere around Millersburg Saturday night?
If you guys are interested in a hang sooner, by all means.
My schedule is pretty packed as of now though and my only real weekend open is all the way in Nov .
Hamike, I'm a real quick pooper in tick and spider infested latrines, haha I heard a jingly noise while I was in there and assumed it was you so I hiked fast to catch up then eventually realized that must of been one of those kids getting water or something, haha. Thanks a ton for hanging around.
Tendertoe, I'm in. As the time gets closer you can make a thread. Let's explore some other options too. Shawnee is a tough hike but lots of forest roads to avoid hiking. Mohican might be the best choice though.
I'm hoping to do linville gorge in october and maybe pennsylvania AT in september, ill post as time draws near. Hopefully you guys can join me if I can work it out at work.
DivaB everyone is plenty knowledged on weight here but if you have any questions I'm confident you could get down to a low weight fairly cheaply.
Not to hijack but can you give a quick run-down of Shawnee? I've been to Zaleski more times than I can count and have wanted to do other places. Shawnee has been one that I have looked in to but I've avoided it because the camps aren't situated so you can do a loop in 2 days. I'd be interested to hear what you have to say about it.
As to Mohican - looks like they cater more to the bridal and bike crowds. Thoughts on a quick in/out over nighter up there?
Wildcat Hollow is a good option, not as heavily utilized and with less camp site restrictions being a national forest.
Wildcat Hollow looks like a decent alternative to Zaleski. Only thing is, thats the opposite side of the state i'll be in Sat/Sun. I'll keep that in mind for later.
Had a great time with you guys this past weekend. It was my first hang and I really enjoyed it. Nov would be great for me, give me some time to get my own hammock and work on lightening my pack. Plus it won't be as hot!
Shawnee is just like zaleski, just higher steeper climbs, a lot more of them. Its been awhile since I read the map but I think the north loop is 17 miles including the cut off trail back to the trail head and the south loop is 26 miles I think including the cut off. The north loop is harder. The hills on the south loop are just as high I believe but further apart. So both loops are doable. Just long hiking days in a way.
Mohican has a good size backpacking loop with a bunch of primitive camps, but they also have parking areas close to each camp, within a mile, from what I read.
Check out www.backpackohio.com. Great info.
