I remember coming down Roan Mtn one time and seeing these long narrow marks in the mud, maybe 15-20 feet long, went on for miles. Next day I met a hiker at Mountain Harbor who was a pro skier hiking the AT, and he told me he had gotten tired of walking in the mud and decided to just ski down the mountain in his hiking boots....!!

Man, now I've got to go get a towel...

Great story. And definitely one of those "What the heck?" that leads into "Ohhh...duh..." moments.

My grandfather logged and sawmilled timber in White, Lumpkin and Rabun counties back in the 1920's. My mother was actually born in one of the logging shacks that they lived in somewhere on Blood Mountain in 1924.
