I believe the technical term for that knot is a 'bird's nest'. I believe the term derives from aggitated anglers.

larkshead some whoopies on. You can either run it through your channel or just bunch it up and wrap it under the channel seem.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I probably should have said what my intentions are with this as well. I don't have the ENO but a Hennessey. I just like the ease of just having a carabiner at the end like that and hooking it into tree straps. So what I was planning on doing is tying the stock hennessey rope around a carabiner for the same effect. Would this not work? I'm not a huge stickler on saving a little bit of weight and don't trust myself enough to put whoopie slings in. Money is tight and if I destroy my hammock it will be a while before I get a new one.

Are you planning on leaving the stock rope or cutting them down in length? How do plan on adjusting the tree strap length.

I was going to cut the stock rope down to length. I made straps that are much like ENO's slap straps with a loop every few inches, but made from a sturdier material that doesn't stretch.

Maybe take the newly cut ends and tie a triple fisherman's knot and use that loop for your carabiner. If you do this make sure to cut one rope a little shorter than the other so the knot ends up on the side and not on the part that will be resting on the carabiner.

Thank you very much. That looks like it will work nicely!
